Dan Dunn was Washington’s sixth-round (154th overall) choice in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. He played for Wellington of the OPJHL in his draft year of 2006-07, posting a 19-4-2 mark, finishing first in the league in save pct. (.934) and second in GAA (1.94).
Dunn began his collegiate career at St. Cloud St. of the WCHA in 2008-09. He played sparingly as an underclassman, getting into nine games in both his freshman and sophomore seasons with the Huskies. He posted a 5-6-3 mark in those games with a credible 2.62 GAA.
Expected to compete for the Huskies’ No. 1 netminding duties as a junior this season, Dunn has started four games to six for freshman Mike Lee, a third-round choice of the Phoenix Coyotes in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. Dunn is 3-1 with a sparkling .938 save pct. and a 1.99 GAA.
Dunn made 47 saves to help the Huskies to a 3-2 road win over North Dakota in sold out Ralph Engelstad Arena last weekend. He was named one of the Red Baron WCHA Players of the Week for the week of Nov. 17-23.
Dunn has participated in Washington’s summer development camps the last few years. The Caps will have until August, 2011 to decide whether or not to sign Dunn to a pro contract.
