2011-12 Hockey School

The Washington Capitals have hosted 50 clinics and reached more than 7,500 students in the Washington, D.C., area through the team’s Hockey School program since its inception in 2007. Capitals Hockey School is a free program designed to be both instructional and interactive, with the goal of exposing students to floor hockey and teaching proper technique. Each Hockey School visit consists of an interactive floor hockey clinic focusing on puckhandling, passing and shooting.

This season Capitals coaches, players, alumni, Slapshot and team representatives will host Hockey School sessions between September and May for groups of 150 fifth through eighth-graders.

Each student who participates in Hockey School will receive the following:

  • An autographed player card signed by one of the Washington Capitals players or alumni attending the clinic
  • A hockey 101 booklet that outlines the rules of street hockey and ice hockey
  • One coupon for a free open skate session at a local participating rink
  • One coupon for a free learn to skate or learn to play introductory class at a local rink
  • A Hockey School squishy puck

In addition, each school will receive an official Capitals Hockey School banner and schools in need of street hockey equipment will receive a free set of equipment

If you are a teacher or school administrator and would like 150 of your fifth-, sixth-, seventh- and/or eighth-grade students to participate in Hockey School, fill out the form below to register. In an effort to reach as many schools as possible throughout the Washington metropolitan area, the Capitals are limiting registration to schools that have not previously participated in this program.

Please note that Hockey School visits will start at 2 p.m., are approximately one hour in length and should take place in the school’s gymnasium. Schools are chosen on a first-come, first-served basis and must select one of the predetermined dates available when signing up. Schools must be within a 30-mile radius of either Kettler Capitals Iceplex or Verizon Center to be eligible. A Capitals representative will contact you to confirm your participation and coordinate visit details.
