New York Rangers 3, Washington Capitals 4 FINAL OT

WASHINGTON (AP) _ Jaromir Jagr's return trip to Washington was wrecked by former Capitals linemate Kip Miller.

Miller scored a power-play goal 1:18 into overtime that gave the Capitals a 4-3 victory over the New York Rangers on Thursday night.

He found a loose puck in front and easily put it past Mike Dunham to win it while Rangers forward Jamie Lundmark was off for hooking.

``I've played against [Jagr] enough to know, `` Miller said. ``I think for him, it was a little bit harder for the first two periods. It's tough to see him on the other side, but I wish him well.''

Jeff Halpern and Josef Boumedienne had assists on the goal that snapped a five-game losing streak.

Jagr forced the extra session by scoring the tying goal with 2:43 left in regulation. He was booed by fans when he first stepped on to the ice and the jeering and hollering continued whenever he touched the puck in New York's fourth straight loss.

``I thought it was going to be a lot worse,'' Jagr said. ``It wasn't a surprise.''

Jagr said his return didn't have the same impact because both teams have made a number of trades in the two months since he was dealt to New York.

``It would be different if our full team played against their full team. But that didn't happen,'' he said.

Boumedienne finished with a goal and two assists, and Miller had a goal and two assists in Washington's first overtime victory this season. Halpern also had a goal and an assist as the Capitals went 4-for-7 of the power play.

Jagr had a goal and an assist in his first appearance in Washington since the Capitals traded him to the Rangers on Jan. 23. He played with the Capitals for about 2{ seasons but never quite lived up to his billing.

The Capitals traded him as part of their salary dump this season.

``The only thing better [than a shutout] would be to shut out Jags,'' Washington goalie Olaf Kolzig said. ``He's still probably one of the best players in the world.''

Bobby Holik and Fedor Tyutin scored 1:18 apart to give the Rangers a 2-0 lead eight minutes in. Jagr got an assist on the second goal, even though he nearly fanned on a pass and fumbled it. Jan Hlavac quickly crossed the puck to Tyutin for the goal.

Brian Willsie cut the New York lead to one on a power-play goal with 8:54 left in the period. Boumedienne tied it with 14:44 left in regulation.

Halpern gave the Capitals a 3-2 lead with 13:23 left, scoring off a crossing pass from Miller. Halpern helped on the other three goals by screening Dunham each time.

Kolzig made 30 saves and kept Washington close. The Capitals were down 2-1 heading into the third period and now are 2-36-3 when trailing after 40 minutes.
