TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - Vincent Lecavalier was off the mark all night and still managed to net the biggest goal of the game.

Lecavalier scored a tiebreaking, power-play goal with 5:07 left to lift the Tampa Bay Lightning over the Washington Capitals 4-2 on Friday night.

The goal that put Tampa Bay up 3-2 was originally awarded to Vinny Prospal, who was positioned in the slot when Lecavalier took a shot from the top of the right circle. Around 30 minutes after the game, the off-ice officials changed the goal to Lecavalier.

``I didn't hit the net tonight,'' Lecavalier said. ``I was very lucky on that one. It was huge to get the third goal and the lead.''

Prospal said the puck never hit him, and Capitals defenseman Shaone Morrisonn said the puck went off his hip.

``It was going wide and I tried to get out of the way at the last second because I couldn't see it,'' Morrisonn said. ``It hit me and went in. It hurts to lose it that way. We just got a bad break, a bad bounce, but that's the way it is.''

Prospal added an empty-net goal during the final minute to complete the scoring.

Tampa Bay also got goals from Dan Boyle and Martin St. Louis. The defending Stanley Cup champion Lightning have won consecutive games for the first time this season and snapped a three-game home losing streak which included a shootout defeat.

``I guess the biggest thing from a coaching standpoint, our players stayed together,'' Lightning coach John Tortorella said. ``We stayed within ourselves and found a way to get it done. That's a good sign.''

Rookie Alexander Ovechkin had his third two-goal game for Washington. The Capitals were looking to win two in a row for the first time this year.

``It was exciting,'' Ovechkin said. ``But we lost the game, and we're disappointed.''

Ovechkin put the Capitals ahead 1-0 at 3:25 of the first. He has at least one point in 10 of his 11 games. Tampa Bay tied it at 1 less than a minute later on Boyle's goal at 4:18.

Ovechkin made it 2-1 on a short-handed goal with 6:48 left in the first. He finished off a breakaway for his eighth goal by making a couple of stick-handling moves to get goalie Sean Burke out of position.

``We're lucky and thankful he's ours,'' Capitals coach Glen Hanlon said. ``He plays well every night. It seems like he gets more fired up the bigger the opponent, and they are the Stanley Cup champions.''

St. Louis got the Lightning even at 2 with 1:43 to go in the second.

Notes: Capitals D Brendan Witt was in the lineup after missing one game to be with his family in South Florida during Hurricane Wilma. ... The Lightning have not allowed a power-play goal in seven games. ... Washington said D Bryan Muir was a healthy scratch. He had returned Wednesday after missing four games with a groin injury. ... The Lightning lost the first meeting this season between the teams 3-2 in a shootout on Oct. 16 despite outshooting Washington 40-14.
